Every day, every day...early each morning, I weigh myself and record the action and the number in a snap shot. It is building a movie. It is also building a certain disregard for the emotions associated with the numbers on the scale. My hope is to become desensitized to that particular tyranny. Progress is being made on that front.
Holidays done, time opens up. I have been working almost exclusively in the virtual world of computers...learning Microsoft Windows and 6D Embroidery software. My hands were itching to MAKE SOMETHING. Hand embroidery and handspinning were not sufficient. I longed to work with watercolors, oil resists, watercolor pencils and collage.
Meanwhile, the number 5, entered my mind, singing like the Beatles. Number Five! Number Five! ( Yes, I know the Beatles sang Number Nine! Number Nine! ) I also was thinking of Jasper John's encaustic paintings of the number 5.
This is a number I can love. Number 5 is typographically interesting and truly beautiful in shape.
